Welcome to Sipu to Stalo Consulting. We extend our gratitude to you for taking the time to visit. Our story began with a passion for advancing Indigenous Knowledge, and Ways of Knowing, Being, Doing, and Valuing. After 12 years of sub-contracting to non-Indigenous consulting firms, our founder saw a need for decolonized, community-based research grounded in relational accountability, capacity building, and work that is meaningful to Indigenous communities. Sipu to Stalo Consulting was created to disrupt status quo colonial consulting processes and methods, and to re-centre Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being, Doing and Valuing in regulatory spaces. We look to Indigenous scholars, leaders, and Knowledge Keepers to inform best practises in decolonizing research with Indigenous communities. Our vision with this space is to contribute to the resurgence of Indigenous ways and self-determination, support Indigenous youth to become Guardians of their community-based Knowledge, and to preserve their distinct Ways of Knowing, Being, Doing, and Valuing for the next 7 generations.
Sipu to Stalo Consulting translates to "River to River", connecting the east and west coasts of the colonial state of Canada. Sipu is Mi'kmaq for "river", while 'Sta'lo is the Hul'qumi'num word for "river". We are honoured to have renowned Lyackson artist Dylan Thomas bring to life a visual representation of Sipu to Stalo, expressed in our logo (right). The two salmon featured in our design embodies their cultural significance to the Mi'kmaq on the east coast, and the Coast Salish Peoples on the west coast. Centring the design, the river celebrates the connectivity between both cultural groups and the ancestral (Mi'kmaq) and relational (Quw'utsun) ties of our founder, Chelsea Dale Brenton. Sipu to Stalo aims to mirror the transformative nature of the river through our work in supporting the resurgence of Indigenous Ways of Knowing, Being, Doing and Valuing in impact assessment.
